Wednesday 4th June, Peterborough 5K series 1.
Summer season begins with this neat 5 race 5K series which
is also another of our club series events. Matt Grace
was first home for the club in the very good time of 17:17,
followed by Adam Hilless in 18:11 and then Des Adey who
I bet was really pleased to break the 20 minutes in 19:55,
Roland Stevens, Elizabeth Dixon, Malcolm Scriven and Bev
Francis all picked up good points for the senior series.
Sunday 18th May, Deeping 10K.
A flat fast race and some really good times by everybody
with several PB/SBs. In the junior event Reece Hannah
was 9th, followed very closely by Ciaron Grafton-Clarke
in 10th and Megan Hannah in 19th, then came Abigail Vergette,
Amy Gibbons, Gianluca Grafton-Clarke, Desire Grafton-Clarke
and Gabriella Grafton-Clarke.
Meanwhile in the 10K event Des Adey lead the team home
in 25th just 7 secs ahead of Tony Gilbert in 27th place,
both runner recording PBs, then came Roland Stevens, and
an improving Andy Henson, Richard Pearson, Elizabeth Dixon
(PB), Malcolm Scriven, Stuart Bremner and Nick Asplin
(PB).
Sunday 4th May, Langtoft 10K.
One of favourite races, the weather was good and the race
well attended, the club had good turnouts in both the
3K and 10K. Nicky Asplin even managed to run both, well
done Nicky. In the 3K Adam Swallow was 4th followed by
Reece Hannah in 12th and Marcus Swallow in 15th, then
Ciaran Grafton-Clark, James Christen, Megan Hannah, Abby
Christen, Abigail Vergette, Amy Gibbon, Chloe Smithers,
Beth Christen, Nicky Asplin, Jasmine Oldfield, Michael
Oldfield, Gianluca Grafton-Clarke, Desiree Grafton-Clarke,
Gabriella Grafton-Clarke and Rachel Smithers.
In the 10K Vaughan Roberts was 11th, Adam Hilless 15th,
Matt Grace 20th and then came Des Adey shortly followed
by Tony Gilbert, Richard Smithers, Roland Stevens, Tony
Yoxall, Louise Swallow, Paul Beland, Andy Henson, Dave
Grace, Richard Pearson, Elizabeth Dixon, Stuart Bremner,
Malcom Scriven, and Nicky Asplin.
Sunday 27th April, Bourne Rotary 5 Mile.
Running on the frostbite course, but in nicer conditions
Vaughan Roberts was the first Bourne runner home in 4th
place, followed by Roland Stevens, Paul Beland, Chris
Taylor, Rachel Parker, Richard Pearson, Bev Francis, Malcolm
Scriven and Nicky Asplin.
Sunday 13th April, London Marathon.
Six club members managed to get in this year and achieved
the following excellent results:- Des Adey 3:34:30, Richard
Smithers 3:47:59, Shaun Towel 3:50:35, Gosia Wilkie 3:55:05,
Rachel Parker 3:57:00 and Paul Beland 4:04:27.
Sunday 30th March, Lincoln 10K.
A small contingent of runners went for this club series
event, with Bev Francis leading the team home, followed
by Kevin and Lia Clayton and Malcolm Scriven, all scoring
good points for the series.
Sunday 9th March, Grantham Half Marathon.
A high club turn out for this half marathon saw some good
results by 11 Harriers. Vaughan Roberts leading the runners
home in 9th in 1.24.41, followed by Andy Shackleton 21st
in 1.30.21, Des Adey 27th in 1.32.59, Shaun Towel 54th
in 1.38.05, Rachel Parker 1.47.24, then Roland Stevens
120, Anna Sadler 161, Malcolm Scriven 182, Beverley Francis
194, Elizabeth Dixon 210 and Nicky Asplin 219. Not only
was Vaughan 9th overall but he was 1st vet in his category,
and Rachel was 3rd in her category as well.
Sunday 2nd March, Huntingdon, Frostbite 6.
This was the last Frostbite of the season, and there was
a smaller than usual turnout by the club. Four juniors
competed and were lead in by Reece Hannah in 26th who
also picked up the club spot prize for this race. He was
followed by Ciaron Grafton-Clarke in 37th, from Megan
Hannah in 39th and Gianluca Grafton-Clarke in 102nd. Megan
and Reece were crowned Harriers boy and girl runners of
the series and they along with Jade Carvath-Smith and
Marcus Swallow were all awarded trophies from the club
for completing four or more races in the series.
The seniors were lead in by Richard Lomas-Brown in 17th
just ahead of Tim Wigley in 19th. Next was Matt Grace
28th, Andrew Shackleton 72nd, Des Adey 88th, Dave Grace
143rd, Richard Pearson 185th (it's a long time since I
last counted in a Frostbite) , Lisa Richardson 188th,
Rachel Parker 204th, Peter Honniball 225th, Bev Francis
284th, Malcolm Scriven 285th and Elizabeth Dixon 301st.
Sunday 24th February, Sleaford, Half Marathon.
One of Vaughans favourite races, well he always does it,
he was 22nd this year in 1.24.52. Vaughan was not alone
as Rachel also tackled this event in an excellent time
of 1.45.22.
Saturday 23rd February, Alton Towers, National Cross
Country Championships.
Whilst some tackled the challenge of Belvoir a others
went to National Championships held at Alton Towers, (no
fun rides that day). In junior men Matt Grace, Adam Hilless
and Matt Green all ran well, and in the senior event Tim
Wigley ran well supported later on by Dave Grace and Richard
Pearson.
Saturday 23rd February, Belvoir, Belvoir Challenge.
Always tough, at least the weather was good this year,
Roland Stevens was first back in 2 hours 34 minutes and
50 seconds, followed by Peter Swallow in 2 hrs 45 mins
22 secs just ahead of his wife Louise in 2 hrs 45 mins
31 secs and completing the club line-up was Malcolm Scriven
in 3 hrs 42 mins 10 secs.
Sunday 10th February, Stamford, Valentines 30K.
Just few hardy souls tackled this tough event, Des Adey
led the chaps home in 129th, followed closely by Vaughan
Roberts in 133rd, the Shaun Towell in 384 and Paul Beland
in 423.
Sunday 3rd February, Bourne Woods, Frostbite 5.
The Bourne Frostbite was again a great success, thanks
to everyone that helped make it such a good event. Both
the senior and junior teams did well, the seniors were
6th overall whilst the juniors were 5th. Tim led the home
team runners in with Richard LB in 19th and Tom in 24th.
A total of 28 seniors and 12 juniors from the club ran,
the senior race had 363 runners and junior one 101 runners.
Saturday 26th January, Roundhay Park, Northern Cross
Country Championships.
A small contingent of Bourne runners entered this demanding
event, in the seniors Tim Wigley was 194 and Dave Grace
came 602, while Matt Grace was 68, and Adam Hilless 90
in the U20 mens.
Sunday 13th January, Ramsey, Frostbite 4.
Windy and damp it was, in the junior race the team were
just one runner short, but still managed fifth place overall.
The boys were first in for the club with Rhys Hannah in
30th from Marcus Swallow in 31st. The girls were not far
behind with Megan Hannah in 38th from Jade Carvath-Smith
in 40th. 19 seniors completed the course and leading them
in was Tim Wigley in 14th place from Richard Lomas-Brown
in 23rd. Then came Dave Hart 57th, Andy Shackleton 70th,
Richard Smithers 75th, Des Adey 93rd, Peter Swallow 101st,
Dave Grace 158th, Louise Swallow 183rd, Roland Stevens
184th, Neill Draycott 196th, Rachel Parker 221st, Lisa
Richardson 227th, Richard Pearson 228th, Peter Honniball
234th, Amanda Hannah 262nd, Bev Francis 307th, Malcolm
Scriven 314th and Elizabeth Dixon 328th. The senior team
finished ninth overall on the day and lie ninth in the
league three points behind the next three teams of BRJ,
Cambridge and Bushfield.
Sunday 6th January, Louth, Lincs League Cross Country
Championships
Conditions were good on a bright and dry day with just
a few wet patches in places on the course. In the under
11 boys race Reece Hannah finished a creditable 5th. In
the under 13 girls Jade Carvath-Smith was 6th while for
the under 15 girls Meggan Hannah was 15th. With numbers
down due to injury and illness the senior men's team did
very well to finish an excellent second in the county
behind winners Lincoln Wellington. Overall placing were
Thomas Honniball 7th, Matt Grace 13th and Adam Hilless
17th. In the separately scored vets race Peter Swallow
was 23rd, Roland Stevens was 31st and Dave Grace was 33rd,
securing an overall vets team place of 7th. In additional
to the senior men's team success, a silver was also earnt
in the ladies vets race. Louise Swallow securing an excellent
individual second place.
Sunday 30th December, Bourne Woods Christmas Handicap.
In near perfect conditions a large number of runners gathered
in the woods for the annual Christmas Handicap. Runners
were set off at different intervals based on their estimated
finish time, the seniors ran two laps of the course while
the juniors ran one. Setting off proceedings for this
year happened to be the 2006 winner Malcolm Scriven. He
was then pursued by Elizabeth Dixon then the first junior
Chloe Smithers followed by everyone else until nearly
eleven minutes later when Matt Grace was last off chasing
everyone else down. Winning the junior race was Adam Organ,
from Chloe, Marcus Swallow, Jade Carvath-Smith and Beowulf.
Winning the senior race overtaking 15 of them on his way
was Matt Green. He was ahead of Roland Stevens, Malcolm
Scriven, Richard Smithers, Peter Honniball, Tim Wigley,
Louise Swallow, Matt Grace, Dave Hart, Neill Draycott,
Richard Lomas-Brown, Richard Pearson, Andy Henson, Adam
Hilless, Peter Swallow, Phil Organ, Rachel Parker, Gosia
Wilkie, Dave Grace, Elizabeth Dixon and Shaun Towell.
Adam and Matt were presented with their winning prizes
and club trophies after the race.
Sunday 9th December, Bushfield II Frostbite.
The Frostbite series returned to Bushfield for the third
race in the series. Thanks to Bushfield for staging 2
events this year, a great effort from one of the smaller
clubs in the league. Leading the team home in his highest
ever place in the league in eight overall was a pleased
Mark Thorogood. He was pursued by Matt Grace in 15th,
Mark Botteley in 20th, Richard Lomas-Brown in 24th and
Vaughan Roberts in 28th. Then came Dave Hart 54th, Des
Adey 94th, Peter Swallow 111th, Dave Grace 150th, Lisa
Richardson 202nd, Neill Draycott 207th, Richard Pearson
211th, Peter Honniball 216th, Rachel Parker 227th, Richard
Smithers was 228th in his first race back since injury
in October, Elizabeth Dixon was the all important third
lady scorer in 292nd, followed by Malcolm Scriven to complete
the team in 293rd.
Four juniors took part in their race lead in by Rhys Hannah
27th, from Marcus Swallow 31st, Megan Hannah 33rd and
Jade Carvath-Smith 37th.
Sunday 2nd December, Nene Valley 10 Mile.
A number of Harriers battled the wet and windy conditions
as they took on the Nene Valley Ten Mile Road Race in
Bretton, Peterborough. In a field of 217 runners, first
home for the Harriers and 7th overall in the race was
Tim Wigley in 59m 5s, followed by Mark Botteley in 15th
in 1hr 1m 9s. Then in 21st was Vaughan Roberts 1h 2m 28s,
48th Andy Shackleton 1h 7m 29s, 64th Des Adey 1h 10m 13s,
131st Peter Swallow 1h 20m 20s, 138th Roland Stevens 1h
21m 31s, 164th Shaun Towell 1h 27m 29s and in 181st Malcolm
Scriven in 1h 32m 41s.
Sunday 25th November, Riseholm, Lincs League XC.
A number of juniors and seniors raced. For the men Thomas
Honniball was 10th followed by Mark Botteley 14th and
Mark Thorogood in 17th, and Des Adey in 47th. Also running
were juniors Rhys & Megan Hannah, Abby & Beth
Christen and Jade Carvath-Smith.
Wednesday 14th November, Stevenage 5K Series.
Two harriers traveled for this 1st of this series of races,
Tim Wigley finished in 17m 9s and was 5th Vet 40, while
Dave Hart came home in 18m 56s and was 3rd Vet 55.
Sunday 11th November, Bushfield, Frostbite.
There was a good turnout for this popular event. In the
junior race Reece Hannah was first home for the club in
32nd, just in front of Jade Carvath-Smith in 34th and
Marcus Swallow in 36th. Followed by Megan Hannah in 44th,
Abby Christen 54th, Beth Christen in 65th, Charlotte Cozens
in 95th, Jenny Richardson in 113th and Sophie Cozens in
122nd. In the senior race of over four hundred runners
first home was Mark Thorogood 18th, Mark Botteley 21st,
Matt Grace 27th, Vaughan Roberts 37th, Richard Lomas-Brown
41st, Dave Smith 96th, Adam Hilless 99th, Peter Swallow
109th, Des Adey 113th, Dave Grace 133rd, Louise Swallow
190th, Neill Draycott 224th, Roland Stevens 228th, Richard
Pearson 247th, Peter Honniball 255th, Lisa Richardson
260th, Rachel Parker 264th, Elizabeth Dixon 327th, Malcolm

Sunday 4th November, Harlaxton, Lincs League XC.
Slightly fewer turned out for the second match in the
series, jade and Megan ran well for the junior girls will
Reece ran well for the boys. In the senior men's event
despite the previous days efforts in the relays, Matt
Grace, Tom Honniball, Des Adey and Dave Grace all ran
again ably assisted by chairman Peter Honniball, the seniors
remain 5th overall in the team events.
Saturday 3rd November, Berry Hill Mansfield, National
XC Relays.
Three teams travelled to Mansfield for one of our favourite
events, the nation 5K relays at Berry Hill. A junior men's
team of Matt Grace, Adam Hilless, and matt Green came
40th against some very strong opposition. Meanwhile in
the senior mean we again field an "A" and "B"
team, the "A" team of Mark Thorogood, Tom Honniball,
Tim Wigley and Dave Smith did well to finish in 108th,
and there was a splendid performance from the "B"s
lead off by Des Adey, then Roland Stevens, Peter Swallow
and anchored home in 140th by Dave Grace. This is a national
competition!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sunday 28th October, Cranwell, Lincs League XC.
The XC season opened at Cranwell with some excellent performances
by a total 16 club members. Jade, Abi Megan and Blaze
all ran well in the junior girls events, with Reece and
Marcus doing well for the boys. The senior ladies fielded
a team that included Louise, Rachel and Carol which was
good enough for 7th place in the team event. In the senior
men, Tim just beat Tom, followed in by Dave, Ben, Des
Roland and Neil, the men's team were joint 3rd on the
day.
Sunday 7th October, St Neots Frostbite.
Big numbers turned up for the opening Frostbite of the
season, in the senior event 21 Bourne runners finished
in a field of 389, Thomas Honniball leading the team in
again and some good all round performances, the seniors
finished 7th overall. The small junior team did even better
finishing well in 5th overall.
Sunday 30 September, Pinchbeck 10K
A number of Harriers took part in this event under the
guise of a social run, but the flat course proved very
quick. Vaughan Roberts lead the team home followed by
Richard Lomas Brown, Andy Shackleton, Des Adey, Niall
Quinlan, Shaun Towell, Dave Grace, Roland Stevens, Neill
Draycott, Carol Draycott, Malcom Scriven and Bev Francis.
Monday 27th August, Grimsthorpe 10K
A glorious day for our big event of the year, organised
by BTH in aid of the St John. We had a record equalling
numbers in the 10K with 354 finishers, a total last achieved
in 1998, there were 160 runners in the fun run as well.
The men's team (Tom, Mark Tim and Matt G) took the team
prize, while the ladies took a very creditable 3rd. In
all 27 seniors did the event with some sterling performances
on a sweltering day. There were some good performances
by the juniors as well.
Wednesday 15th August, Werrington 5K
Run 5 (and last) in the Peterborough 5K Grand Prix. On
yet another wet night several club runners did this final
event in the series. Tom Honniball was home first again
in 9th place, followed by Matt Grace 25th, Matt Green
31st, Des Adey 77th, Shaun Towell 84th, Richard Pearson,
Neill Draycott, and Dave Grace.
Wednesday 1st August, Stamford 5K
Run 4 in the Peterborough 5K Grand Prix. A total of 9
Bourne runners ran this tough 2 lap course in Stamford
and there were some good performances, notably Tom Honniball
in 20th, Tim in 26th and Matt Green 36th.
Saturday 21st July, Burton Beer Bash 5M
Conditions, Wet Wet Wet.
After a really soggy summer it was no surprise that the
course on the day was switch to be an all road race. Many
people had to drive through floods just to get this inaugural
running of a potentially great little event at Burton
Coggles (near Corby Glen). Not surprisingly given the
atrocious conditions a small field of 41 runners tackled
the undulating and flooded in parts course, but it was
a fairly strong field with 34 of the runner being club
runners from all over. Four Bourne Town Harriers managed
to get through to start the race, Tim Wigley in good form
was 2nd, closely followed by Vaughan Roberts in 5th, Richard
Pearson and Rachel Parker also put in good runs and finish
a little further down the field. Then came the beer in
the title.
Thursday 12th July, Whissendine 6M.
Conditions, Warm.
On a warm evening in Rutland 16 seniors tackled the hills
round Whissendine, a tough but very enjoyable event. Mark
Botteley was first back in 35.39, followed by Tim Wigley
36.08, Vaughan Roberts 37.21, Matt Grace 38.36, Richard
Smithers 39.32, Des Adey 44.08, Peter Swallow 44.40, Roland
Stevens 45.30,Richard Pearson 46.22, Louise Swallow 47.40,
Rachel Parker 48.58,Dave Grace 49.35, Lisa Richardson
49.39, Liz Dixon 53.00, Bev Francis 54.30, Nicky Asplin
61.08.
Sunday 1st July 2006, Thurlby 10K, The Club Championships.
Conditions, Humid.
The club championships were held at Thurlby as usual,
it's always hot for this event, even when it rains the
rain is hot, this year it had been very wet but the rain
held off, just, for the race The championships included
the senior 10K and handicap events and the junior championship
and handicap event. A total of 19 seniors and at least
9 juniors competed. Mark Thorogood won the 10K championship
with Shaun Towell collecting the handicap trophy, the
men's team of Thorogood, Botteley and Roberts (3rd, 4th
and 9th, veterans all) took the team prize as well. Adam
Swallow held off his younger brother Marcus to win the
junior championship, while Jade Carvarth-Smith 10th overall
and won the junior handicap. There were plenty of good
